I had a lot to do this weekend but I managed to get out and take a few shots in between the work so I thought I'd post them for C&C. All were shot with the 17-55mm

tried to get a shot of the little guy on the flower but he's a little oof.

This one seems over exposed but for some reason it didn't look right when I tried to reduce brightness.

This is the inside of a half rotted tree but I thought it would make a good photo. It almost looks like a far off shot of some ancient cliffs. At least that is what it looks like to me.:)

1st one is the best out of the group but need to be angle differently. 2nd one is out of focus, should focus on the bug and middle of the flower. 3rd one is blown out by the sun and not an interesting subject. 4th one doesn't seem interesting inside. If there was something inside, it would had been alright but no clear subject. GL and keep shooting!

Thanks for the responses. I was pretty desperate for subject matter, I was working outside and taking shots whenever I stopped for a break so I couldn't go far. I guess it's a good sign that I had most of the same thoughts that you did when I looked at them. I thought #1 would have looked better at more of an angle instead of top-down view. I mention in first post that #2 was oof. (I really want a macro lens :() I was hoping the cart would look good being red on a green background but the darn sun was just so bright. I guess my overactive imagination led my to take #4, it was a little underexposed but I cleaned it up a little w/software.

I guess it just comes down to time, I'm still new at this and when I'm in a hurry I tend to slip into snapshot mode. I need to take time to travel around locally to find something worth taking pics of, I need to take the time to get composition right, need to take time to get correct exposure levels, time time time.

I think there is an old covered bridge around here somewhere. If I can manage the time I'll go looking and try to get some good shots of it. There is also an old dilapidated church nearby I'll see if I can find out who is responsible for it and get permission to get inside and take some pics.
