I was at a forestry rally, cars, last week it was very dry and the dust coming from the cars was like powder walls. as a result Im pretty sure grit has gotten in under the "mode wheels on the top left hand side, as you look through the viewfinder, its not hindering movement but up close you can hear grit working away in an annoying manner. Is there a convenient way to resolve this ?

Like wise with the lens I had on a 70 200 sigma Fx in the zoom ring there is a similar sound and it does seem a bit restricted at the 200 end.

I was aggravated at the time of discovering these things and Im kicking myself that I didn't take steps to protect the camera.

Define "convenient"... personally, I would send them in for a professional CLA; the dust under the mode wheels probably isn't too much of an issue, especially if it's a higher end body with at least some degree of weather sealing, but the lens would concern me.

I had a kit lens partially roll into a stream before.
It was grindy for a couple weeks but dried out or something and was fine.
With sand and such, not sure what to do other than hope that it works out without damaging something if you don't get it cleaned.

If you're hearing grinding, either the grit is breaking down from abrasion with the camera/lens, the grit is remaining the same, and metal/plastic is being removed, or both. If it were mine, I'd have both cleaned.

Ya I just thought of posting up and see, I wouldn't go tackling it myself anyway, there is a recall on the camera from nikon so I could just get them do it while its in, would that be pricy?

As for the lens id have to ask around about places not sure theres a sigma affiliate in Ireland.

I got onto a Sigma specialist near me and ID have to bring it down to them. I only got the lens approx 10 months ago and this crowd mentioned that I could be covered in warranty, is that true?.
