When I was in highschool, I saw the phrase - "Eric wuz here" written on a wall and underneath of it, someone corrected them with this phrase - "Its spelled 'was' dummass". I laughed

I've seen more than my fair share of illiteracy on walls/windows/etc.

Not so much illiterate, probably just a momentary lapse of concentration (did I say momentary?).. the best one that I've come across is..

"Robert's your mother's uncle"

It's funny every time.

Then again, do we really want to judge education based on the kind of people who carve things into walls?

All I can say is that if you can't spell a word don't carve it into something...

That's what I say... You had time to think. You were carving... not using a marker. Take the time to think before you spell.

Its really the basics that are truly lacking, take maths, the times tables are just not beat into kids like they were in the old days. Once teachers have taught the basics once that's it - they move onto using calculators and trying to do advanced maths without the backing of good basic understandings. They even took long division out of the sylabus at one time - and honestly the number of times I have used that is too many to count and I don't do anything with heavy maths.

I remember as a child my mother made me memorize past the 12th times table. You have to think quick and know it by heart. I was mad as hell because we didn't have to learn it. But I'm glad she pushed me. No one uses their brain cells anymore we all rely on technology.

Sadly, our government schools here in America are failing miserably at educating our kids because we've embarked on a collective mission to protect their feelings, rather than to educate them..

No child left behind rule/act.

I have to agree there is a disipline problem as well as a break down of communication between teachers and parents - sadly teachers and parents are at odds too much of time and the PC groups and media hype up fears of abuse and such.

I always said discipline begins in the home. Some of these kids today have no manners or morals. They weren't taught any. They take that right into the class room with them. Some teacher are too scared to teach because of possible assaults.

haha reminds me when I went to this place where Polish people hang out and drink and saw something written on a road block (in polish) translated it means "always and everywhere the f*****g cops will be there". almost all of the words had an error in it lol. Here is a shot of that.

No biggie, man... I have pretty much mastered the English language and grammar, and I still make mistakes that spell check doesn't catch because of the mistake being a viable word.. Just funny that it happened in a thread about people not being able to spell..

I wanted to carve some words into something once. But after thinking it over I figured it would take me about half an hour to get everything in there and to express the sentiments that I was feeling at that point in time. Oh well.
