Oh, this is "western style" as well. Not sure how familiar you are with American culture, but I was referring to the ruggedness of the stereotypical American Ranch culture, that we like things a "little more pickly" than the "sissy flowers" posted by Mish and her stereotypical East Coast gentrified sensibilities. Yucca is an icon of Western American flora, and doesn't grow in moist climates.
The "western" part was more out of fun, and to indicate I was inspired by Mish's blurry flowers when I was out taking them.

I felt that this one benefited from b/w for a couple reasons. First, this plant is older than the other and had a strong red-brown line running the margin of each needle which was kind of distracting. The shadow in the center was also greenish, and not as dominant. My primary reason, however, is because this image is more about line than it is about form and motion. I wanted it to be bolder, less gentle and sweeping. In the color version, the texture of the needles are not as apparent. In the others I wanted to emphasize the beauty, including it's color. In this one, I wanted to emphasize the sharpness and structure.
I certainly envisioned it in color, but it just didn't work out that way in the end.
