Dragonfly in flight (Migrant Hawker)

Hi All,

See below a couple of pics of a Dragonfly I chased around a lake for 20 minutes. It eventually hovered about 2M (6Ft) directly in front of me long enough to get the second pic:

I must have spent many hours trying to photograph migrant hawkers on the wing. Despite my efforts being on at least 20 different days, I've only twice had them co-operate to the point I could get anything (not as sharp as yours though). The second time one settled near me & allowed me to take macro shots & even stayed put while I got my infra red camera out.

I know what you mean. What these pictures dont show is the many hundreds of "nearly" photos.
I dont have a long lens so i have to use some stealth and patience to get them within range of a 105mm Macro lens.

Thanks for all the comments.
These were taken in a particular set of circumstances.
It was a very bright sunny day around noon. There was very little wind and there was nobody else around where I was photographing.
The natural very bright light was coming from directly above which meant I could up the shutter speed and get a larger depth of field (f8} without sending ISO off the scale.

Just in case you needed any more convincing ........

The MC 105 mm is heavy / slow focus but the best lens I have ever owned.

Go give it a go in any garden. flowers, bugs, tree bark all make great subjects. If you want a challenge have a go at catching something in flight.
