A local professional sports photographer decided to go into wedding...

... and beat out my friend for a job. After seeing pictures posted on Facebook from the wedding, I feel for my friend. He lost the bid to the person that took these photos. The interesting part is that they love the pictures. How do you go about to educate your potential clients, and differentiate yourself from other photographers?

Not sure I'd be happy if someone posted my pictures on a forum without knowing about it.

I agree that most shots aren't great but I do not think this forum is meant for commenting on peoples pictures when they can't react to those comments.

Yeah... the whole posting of the link like that isn't so cool.
The thing here is... its over and done. Nothing anyone can do.
Your friend needs to do a few things here. 1st is (sadly) get over it. There will be MANY weddings booked elsewhere. Educating the client only goes so far. It doesn't change what they like and don't like and it doesn't induce them to pay a price they don't want to pay.
2nd would be think about his or her presentation and WHY it didn't make the couple NEED to sign with him.
And lastly (for this post at least) is get out of the competition mind set. He has NO competition. He is the only one of him. No one else does what he does how he does it. Quite obviously the former sport shooter doesn't. So... they aren't the same thing and they are not in competition. Once you get to that mentality business is a whole lot better.
