Might just replace celebrity fashion accessory/bling cameras like the vintage Contax p&s stuff!
But then there's no gold or champagne version--yet.

$549.........a bit pricey for manual advance/rewind (how long will the rewind knob last?)......but what do I know this place only has one left.

Might clear the shelves faster than that weirdo Pentax half-frame. How did those do in your shop?

We had 8 in stock. Sold 2 then marked it down from $499 to $479 and sold 3 more.
A head-scratcher among staff at my go-to camera counter in downtown Toronto. They flat didn't like 'em and steered customers away to used film stuff. Like you, they sold a few then nada. Ricoh's plan apparently was to move on to a SLR film body if the half-frame got traction. Seems that got shelved when it didn't.

That's what they should have done to began with and used the Pentax K-mount.
My take from the Japanese rumor mill suggests that was a live option 2+ years ago. Seems a group of old&new Pentax people saw a resurrected K1000-ish camera as winner and "halo" product for the new Ricoh management. The trick, though, was pricing. Was the market deep enough globally--and especially in the US--to float the scheme? Agree the half-frame was a dud.
Ricoh execs chickened out and saw no upside to what they considered a costly "legacy" project. We both know the pool of decent film gear is shrinking as we speak.
