what's that thing on your flash? a diffuser? why? if you're using a telephoto, at the distances that you're at, it wouldn't make any difference on the quality of light, it would just cut down on the quantity.

I think it's a flash extender (http://www.synvis.com/FlashXtender.htm). I have no idea if they work, but have seen them used on telephotos quite a bit.

Yes, Better Beamer flash extender for flash up to 100 feet. Helpful for fill flash when using zoom lenses. Sorry for the confusion, Nothing to do with the landscape shots. I was using my other camera and snapped a shot of it.
