Nice picture! What's the light source in the garden to the right? And, about what time was it when you took the picture? Looks like just after nightfall. Nice job capturing the few lit up portions along with all the lowlit areas.

Thanks for your comments pat. I approached the owner and asked him if he would turn on all his lights. I arrived just before the sky became black and it was quite dark out. Its amazing how much you can get with a long exposure. I think the long one was 15 seconds. Unlike our eyes the light is accumulative so we end up seeing what cant be seen with the human eye. The light on the right is rope light. Plastic tube with lights in it.

If you can find subjects that will hold still long enough, nighttime HDR is often more interesting than daytime HDR.

I agree Slick, thats why I asked the guy to shoot his place after sundown. The only problem I had was heavy traffic on the road between me and the house. To get the shot I did I had to shoot from across the road and the cars kept driving by. Meanwhile, I had to make exposures of up to 15 seconds.

The tree on the left was illuminated by the street light which cast a weird orangish reddish light. I havent noticed any graininess.

That's been my experience, as well. How do you handle focusing in low light situations? I've found that to be the trickiest issue.

Have to do manual focus. I pick some lit section and focus on that. By keeping the fstop in the mid range I keep depth of field. This is how the scene looked when I was shooting it. Shutter speed 2 sec, f7.1 and ISO 400.
