A second attempt...

I posted a picture of my old Canon AE-1 a short while back. The result wasn't very good so I thought I'd attempt it again...

Last time I shot hastily and used my pop-up flash...This time around I used an old Vivitar manual Flash and a shoot-through umbrella.

First shot was much better all the way around. Better exposure and focus

The lighting here is much better. The exposure looks fine to me, the highlights are nice and bright. The flash just created some very deep shadows.

You could place a white object just out of frame, frame-left, to bounce a little light back into those shadows to open them up a little.

Focus is definitely an issue here, you seem to have pretty shallow depth of field here. Or, something. The AE-1 looks pretty sharp in most places, but the other camera is all soft. Maybe your lens is just awful or something?

The subject matter is still pretty dull, but I think you did a better job of that as well. Photographs of cameras are always a little too meta for my taste.

Canon EOS Elan...where the 5D and 5D Mark II got their DNA. Seriously. Always nice to see some of the oldies being shown a little love! I shot a bit with an AE-1 back in my high school days. It's hard to overstate just how POPULAR the AE-1 was--they were everywhere!!!

That's very true Derrel it seems like everyone owned an AE-1 or a K1000 ..

Lol, I'd had both of them, K1000 and a AE1, actually I still have them but they both are not working sadly.
