Abandoned House Prom Photos--feedback appreciated!

Hello all--
I am a newbie here and to the photography world as a whole, i guess, and haven't had a chance to get any kind of constructive feedback on any of my photos.
I posted a couple of these in 2 different spots but saw that it was acceptable to post a series of photos--so I guess that's what I'm gonna do
I shot these for a few of my friends a couple months ago.
I appreciate any and all feedback--I can take it as long as its not an outright "you suck. give up."!!

I like 1 and 2 the best. I like the first one the best because it is the most natural looking of any of them, good DOF, and it fills up the frame nicely. The second one, well because, she is pretty... :mrgreen:

I, personally, don't really like photos that look too posed, unless its a close face shot or something. Overall not bad, just not appealing to me.

I like #2 &#7. I think they all look pretty good but those are my favorites.

i definitely wanted them posed--because they are prom pictures and i'm an amateur, so i didn't really know any other way but i also didn't want to do the traditional "cheesy" prom pictures that can sometimes happen.

anyway...anyone else? i'd love to hear what you think

You won't often get a "you suck give up" here. There's only a few bad apples on this forum and they don't post very often. Only in the Critique subforms are you limited to 1 at a time.

My opinions:
#1 Very similar problem to the other one of her you posted. The angle and the short focal length make her head look big, and as such not a very flattering pose. It may be better if you had a ladder and shot down using a longer lens.

#2 Good pose lighting and all but personally I find the composition a bit boring. Perhaps if more of the lovely grass was included, and the entire frame brought out that lovely olden style dress.

#3 The tree is a bit distracting being half cut out. Either in or out, or move the subjects closer to it, or crop the subjects in further, I don't know something in my opinion is just not giving this photo the edge it should have.

#4 Lovely prom photo. Love it, but not good for much else.

#5 Not quite sure what to make of this one. The half cut off looks somewhat accidental, though I doubt it was.

#6 Fantastic. And not just for proms. The random poses, the cloths matching the house, this works for so many different situations. Band photos, fashion, prom etc.

#7 Great group of friends shot. I think the girl in white is a bit too lost in the image though. Could have been fixed by getting her to step a little bit closer.

#8 Lovely photo and great idea, not a fan of the crop though. This would look great on a 6x6 plate.

My critique like every other is just one person's opinion, it's an idea and may not reflect what you had intended for the photos.

You made some really great points that I will definitely keep in mind from now on

I just have soooo many ideas and such passion for this I could explode--but because I don't yet know as much as I want about the technical aspect, its hard to express it. Its like trying to speak a foreign language or something. But I will get there one day

Anyway, thank you all for your help! I can tell this forum is going to be a great asset to me!!
