I've read that this cam it's a good cam for beginners. It's flexible, fast and have a good quality considering the price.

Any one have more info about this cam? I've read about this Nikon here.

Thanks!

they say d3000 is a joke.

better get d3100.

I bought the D3000 about and a half ago. I had not owned a DSLR prior to this. I find it easy to use but wish it had a few more features such as bracketing. If you want a camera to learn the basics then this will do the job nicely. If you're expecting professional level pictures right off the bat then you will be disappointed. I find that I take a lot of shots and end up with a few that I really like. The kit lenses are mediocre and you will end up buying more. (Its addicting) I picked up a 70-300 refurbished that I am falling in love with. It enables me to get in close and still maintain crisp details. It cost almost as much as the D3000 body would.

Who is "they".

most mates of mine who owns d3000.
they all sold it now.

You gotta learn how to work with what you got, I pulled of a lot of good images from my d3000. I'd still have it, if I weren't given a deal on a d90 that I couldn't refuse. My guess is that your mates are taking the same type of images with whatever camera they moved onto lol.

Of course, if you can afford the 3100 or 5100, go with those, I would. BUT, if you are looking for a very beginner camera and can find it for a really good used price, go for it.

Oh, your mates are experienced photographers familiar with several makes and models of camera?

1 of them owns a d90 before he purchased d3000 as a back up.
my other mate is an artist using old film cameras, when he purchased d3000, he wasnt happy and replaced it with d5000.

Oh, so they aren't well informed about digital cameras after all, having little experience with them.

The wetware is more important than the hardware, and the software.

The D3000 is a very viable beginners camera.

I have it and got it as my first DSLR. I love how easy it is to use. It has allowed me to learn the basics of exposure and get some pretty decent shots. I am FARRRRR from good with it yet and think it is a great beginner DSLR.

Might want to get a used D90 for a price/performance.

I would question the safety of buying used cameras. After all, they're all electronics and electronics fail. You will have no warranty. You have no idea of what it's been through and how used it really is. You can buy used guitars and be pretty safe. They're mostly wood. But cameras? Dunno 'bout that one.

If you know what you are doing you can safely buy used photography gear.

I've been buying used cameras, lenses and other photography gear for years.

The last 8 digital cameras I have purchased, were purchased used, online, from private sellers I didn't meet face-to-face: 2 - Nikon D90, 4 - Nikon D300, 2 - Nikon D3 - none with warranty. I still have 2 of the D300 and the 2 - D3. None of the 8 have required any kind of repair.

The only camera repair I have needed in recent years was to a D90 I bought new, but the needed repair wasn't covered by the warranty. A soccer ball ripped a 500 mm lens off the D90 stripping out all the lens mount screws. The D90, on a monopod, also hit the ground destroying the rear LCD. The repair cost me $260.

In the US a camera warranty is usually only good for a year anyway, if you buy new.
