So I found that the XSi sensor has a life expectancy of 50,000 actuations. What does one do after that? when it dies, do you just send it to canon to swap out sensors, or is the cost to do that as expensive as just buying a new camera? how much does that usually cost? I know 50,000 pics is a long way away, but I think I've probably already taken over a thousand LOL

it's not the sensor... it's the shutter mechanisms that wear.... 50k is only a guideline..... don't do anything until your shutter blows up...

you will most likely be on to a different body by then....

oh thats right, i mixed it up in my head. i meant shutter, came out sensor. ok then same case, say worst case, i'm still on the same body..would that be something that can be replaced or fixed or is it so expensive it just makes more sense buying a new body?

You can call your local Canon service center and ask for a general figure on the cost of shutter replacement.

few hundred bucks.... not really worth it unless you have a pro body...
