Advice on pinhole cameras?

I recently made a pinhole camera. I don't have a digital camera so I figured I would start with something simpler first. Plus DIY rocks! I used a matchbox and some 35mm. I have basically no experience with photography, still in the experimental stages. My first attempt with a pinhole camera produced out of focus pictures. I suspect this has something to do with the focal length. Can anyone offers tips or any resources for this type of photography? Or resources to learn about things like focal length, film speeds, etc. (yes.. I'm that ignorant) outside of a photography class. I plan on taking one. youtube can only take you so far.

DIY does indeed rock but you can buy purpose built pinholes (some with panoramic capabilities).
It's all about getting a tiny, perfectly circular hole. The ones expertly made are pretty awesome cameras..a you'll never need to upgrade your lens.
