Advice on Specific Locations in Iceland

I leave for Iceland on Sunday night (June 1st). I only have 8 days. I have a very detailed itinerary from a good friend who is a terrific photography who was just there in May. I will only be going east of Reykjavik and avoiding major cities (yes, I know there is a lot of good stuff there but my time is limited). I'm not a birder--if a nice puffin accidentally wanders in front of me, I'll shoot it but I'm not going to go out of the way to visit bird preserves. I will not have a drone. I will have my own car. About the fartherest north I'm planning on going if Hofn (on the east coast). I am planning on spending a day on the Golden Circle and my last half day will be in Reykjavik.

I'm interested in any site-specific recommendations that anyone has. Because I'm sure my schedule will adapt--given the Icelandic weather. Fire away and when I get back I'll let you know if I went there and why my experience was.
