After studying Carleton Watkins. School Assignment

For the first set of assignment's in my photography class we were told to pick a famous photographer, born before 1940, and study them. I picked Carleton Watkins and wrote a small biography about him. Afterwards we were asked to go recreate one of his shots as closely as possible. Lastly we were asked to go and take a photo on our own that emulated their style or work. This is the photo I took. Hope you all like Sepia. One of the requirements was that if they shot in a certain "colorset" we had to shoot the same.

Can we see the photo you were trying to re-create? The blown highlights are bothering me and I'm wondering if the original photo had them too.

Yeah I'll show you the one where I recreated his. He didn't generally leave much in the sky so I worried more about the actual landscape. When I get home and have the file I'll post it. Watkins got into the photo game VERY early after its invention!

Yeah he did. If I understand correctly he even designed his own "Mammoth Plate" camera system. He also had a camera for stereographs! It's awesome to think they were already working on "3D" back then.
