Air Security Questions

Has anyone had a security related problem for having a monopod in carry-on luggage on a flight to or from Europe to or from North America? Would it be better to put the monopod in checked luggage?

I have had checked baggage lost or misplaced more than once and so have most people I have known. Airline/airport liability is limited (and often non-existant). I try to travel with NOTHING checked, so it doesn't sit right to be told to check my expensive things. Now if the airlines told me that their outrageous checked baggage fee also paid for substantial insurance, I might have different thoughts.

I still don't understand why airports aren't more careful about matching ticket stubs with checked baggage before they let you walk out with something.

Seriously...I use the Newark airport a lot...anyone can catch a public bus for $1.50 about 100 feet away from the baggage claim and be at the downtown bus/train station in 15 minutes.

Me: "Excuse me officer, I can't find my bag; I think someone may have taken mine."

Officer: "We'll get right on that! We'll start reviewing security tapes, looking for someone leaving the baggage claim area with a suitcase, we'll get your bag back in no time!!!"

I spoke with someone at Frontier Airlines yesterday that told me that tripods are allowed as a personal item/carry on. I am flying only for one night and not checking any bags so I will see how this goes.

Oh yeah, it is a domestic flight.
