These were taken in early 2010 when I got my first dslr....I'll have to go back and see if he is there with the experience I have now..

And the man who made everyone by hand (there were LOTS more) with scrap peices of metal. The average plane takes 10 years to make...and it has completely functional accessories...Built to size

I'm active duty. The first half were taken during our Tiger Cruise at the end of our last deployment. The 2nd half (starting with the cat launch) were taken during normal flight ops. I tried to go at least once a week during deployment to watch flight ops, it's definitely a good experience.

I thought AF1 was a B-747 and that's not the plane in the photo. I took a photo (that I can't find now) of AF2 at the Jackson Hole, WY airport back in Feb 2001. It was definitely a 747. Have they changed the type of planes since?

Taken with 300d and Sigma 70-300. These are couple of years old and I can now see the limitations of this camera/lens setup. LOL

There are multiple Air Force 1 craft since not every airport the president might go to can accomodate a 747 - those things take a lot of runway. Technically, any craft the president is flying in automatically gains the designation "Air Force 1" if memory serves.

They are backups, technically no airplane is af1 unless the president is on board. It's a 757 also.

yeah AF2 is an older plane and less sophistacated while AF1 is newer and top of the line security...

As for the pictures i LOVE them! those were extremely cool to see!

Oh that def is... I was working that day and rememeber trying to get crappy iPhone pics bc I didn't have my camera. All my coworkers and I ran we had heard thru the other airport workers that it was coming so we all wanted to see

According to the Wikipedia, VC-25 which is a modified version of the 747-200B is still the primary AF1 plane in use (since 1986) but as been pointed out, different planes are used depending on the circumstances. The one in the photo is a 757. It's this guy:
