What's new

Almost had it C & C

By the time he has done that he has probably missed some good play
Why not just expose it properly, when i'm shooting my fingers are tweeking the dials non stop to get it right

Why wouldn't you set the exposure before the game even starts (when they're practicing on the ice)? All the shots should be around the same exposure, because they are all of the same subject with the same lighting and the same background (ice and white wall).

Just find the right exposure and stick with it the whole game, unless they start looking dark or light (then wait till the period is over and readjust).

That is what I did when I shot ice skaters in a rink and they all turned out perfect (I just had to tweak the white balance afterwards).

Thanks for all the comments, I was in apperture mode. next time I'll take them in manual.
NO NO NO!

Shooting in manual is for those shots when you have time to fiddle with exposure. It'll just slow you down. Instead, shoot in Aperture Priority, recording in RAW, and with exposure compensation of around +0.7. You might also want to crank the ISO up to 1600 too to make up for the shower shutter speed with the exposure compensation.

What lens do you have? You'll want a 70-200 f/2.8 for serious sports shooting. You should always shoot with the lens wide open when shooting indoor sports so that you can get a fast enough shutter speed.

We don't have much ice hockey over here but when i'm shooting inside the lighting is so poor different parts are lighter than others

I find that at a regular rink, the light is pretty consistent from one end of the rink to the other. No major tweaking needed for constant exposure as long as you are capturing at similar angles

Its like that at many rinks its like that but I've been to some where its not. If the rink has consistent lighting, then yes, perfect the exposure in Manual mode before the game, and then shoot using that. If the lighting varies though, set the exposure compensation, and shoot in Aperture Priority with the largest Aperture possible.
