An Inspired Writer

So I had thought my friend reading would make a good subject. Here I'm unsure if I structured these two images right.

Does anything get to distracting? I tried to get as much out of the shot as I could. Because nothing else really related to the subject.

I like #1. The shoes are potentially distracting, but they do add to the scene. If you were to shoot it again, I'd maybe move them a little further away from the camera, make them still be obviously shoes, but less up front. Make it obvious that the shoes are not subject, they're context.

The second one is quite nice as well. I like the sense of the hot sun it has in the sharp shadows. The little stick or whatever it is on the horizon is a bit enigmatic and maybe a little distracting. Again, if I were shooting it over, I'd maybe look for the base of a tree or similar to place about there, to provide the nice sense of context and to keep the top of the frame from being dull.

I prefer 1...2 is a little unbalanced, I would try cropping a little off the left and if reshot I would put a book mark between the pages extending into the upper frame....
