Ancient Trees

Visited the Ancient Bristlecone Forest in the White Mountains this weekend. Just blows my mind that some of these trees are over 4,800 years old! It was so peaceful I could have sat in the forest for days.

Nice but too bad your focus was not on the nearest part of the tree.

Its actually in focus if you look at the uncompressed psd file, but the rings of the tree are so close together (the ranger was saying they count them with microscopes) that it provided a very strange smeared looking surface. My focus point at f/18 was the light part just right of center halfway up the trunk, giving me a hyperfocal distance of 6". Another contributing factor is well its not a pro lens and had mad CA, probably doesnt help the sharpness.

Anyways I'm rambling, I just meant to say I agree it looks funky and spent quite a bit of time zoomed in trying to figure out if I had dorked up the focus. cool trees!
