another lighting question/multiple flashes.

okay. i have my little D3000 and my sb900. ive taken the sb900 off camera and still working on using it. but i want to add a few extra flashes. mainly for shooting cars outdoors at night. went out with some friends. and my one flash just isnt enough to get the whole car lit up. so im thinking adding two more flashes will be my best option the sb900 is great but i dont want to buy two more. since there off camera i just need to add a couple of triggers to which ever flash i purchase(right) to fire them so what are some inexpensive but decent flashes. maybe around a hundred bucks or less per flash? that have good light output. for my pourposes i think just a couple of flashes will be the easiest and most portable solution over something more powerful like some ailenbees with a powerscource. little help, or point in the right direction if there are other better options im just not thinking about.

Check out Craig's List for something like the old Sunpak five-hundred series hammer-head flashes. LOTS of light, fully controllable down to 1/64, and have both AC and battery options. I picked up two a year or so back for $40/each.

vivitar 285hv's are also great unit for the price., they work well with some inexpensive radio triggers Or the more expensive one of course.

Terrible idea. Sorry. If he buys a couple of Sunpak five hundred series then he'll have to suffer through built-in 1/4x20 mounting threads already on the flashes, powerful flash output,built-in PC cord connection outlets, easy slave trigger mounting, a solid grip,excellent controls, and low prices. Who wants all that??? I mean, c'mon, if he buys a couple of those, he'll save $150 to $350 over the price of newer, less-powerful, fancier flash units, and some photo dealer will not get to have a ritzy lunch on his dime, and the entire economy will suffer just a little teensie tiny bit because some poor sap didn't buy "new" when "used" would do, and do better too. So, sorry, bad idea. Remember tirediron, we are here to enrich the photo dealers of the world by suggesting top-priced chit that is still in ****Stores*****!!!!

I use an SB600 and 2 "craigslist vivitars" plus some "craigslist pocketwizard triggers". Those triggers flash further away than I care to walk and test, i tried it!

+1 KMH has some vivatars in the for sale section priced right.
