Other than the fact that he isnt really smiling its my fav of the series.

What diffuser did you use? To me I rather see portrait orientation on this. Very cute kid.

The diffuser is just a cheap one, the Pearstone Bounce Dome for 580EX and 580EX II.

I have noticed a big difference since I got it, the light is much softer and more pleasing to the eye. Bouncing the flash is another thing that I find helps.

I used to always use my speedlight straight forward with no diffuser. Lets just say the results werent very good lol.

I guess the next step is to get a 2nd speedlight and get light on my subject from different angles?

Here is an idea, dont use one. Just bounce it. Bounce it to the wall+ceiling behind you or on the wall on the side or wall+ceiling combo.
