Isn't there a difference between #2, #4 and #6 oil burners?

B) Diesel will be many times more expensive than fuel oil. Here diesel is like 80% tax.

You can burn the #1 fuel in your furnace, but it is going to be more expensive considering you're going to pay road-use tax on it. Don't worry about the dye. If you can get to a farm style-coop that sells the cheaper stuff, do that. As to #1 vs #2, probably everything you find is going to be #1 at this time of year, or a blend. Don't need to add any kerosene to the #1.

Maine. House is older so it still uses oil heat. I would like to switch to natural gas but the nearest line is roughly 50 miles away. Propane is good too but I'd have to switch my whole system over.

I will probably end up putting in a wood stove since I have the hook up and plenty of trees to cut down.

Some people make diesel out of used fryer oil. I think they still have to pay the road use tax on it if they drive on the public roads.

Yes, more than a few older homes around here (Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC) use oil for heat. For whatever reason, gas lines weren't put in some subdivisions.

sounds good. Make it a day or so. Hopefully you found OFFROAD diesel so it was cheaper than on road diesel?
call around you should be able to find someone to deliver quicker and you might even find a better price. I know I just paid 3.399 #2 and k1 is 3.999 with who I use. One place I just plan on paying about 400 every three weeks and the other takes k1 so about 500 every four weeks (no one is there most of the time thermostats kept at 50 degrees).
At times I have lost track and run out, ended up dumping it in by hand.
im debating pellet stoves but the duct work getting the heat from the basement to the top floor I really just don't want to deal with.
I just paid six k for a new boiler a couple years ago. Cheapest I could find for what I wanted I was looking at things near ten k. things a monster 5 section cold start though with on demand tank. I replaced two boilers with this ONE. Did a lot of the work myself though, scrapped the other boilers. Looked for wholesale pricing. Ended up at the six k which was about the best I could do I think for what I wanted.

If you have a pellet supplier, then pellet stoves give you all the benefits of wood heat with none of the horrible exercise!!
