anybody had any experience with this?

Hi i'm new here so I don't know whether this is in the right place so here goes...........
Does anybody have any experience with battery grips for the nikon D40?
I want one with vertical controls and have been told that the only ones that have this function do so using infra-red (like the remote control). This isn't a problem BTW but could anybody confirm?
