Does anyone have any shots they can post up where they used a speed light?

You mean a Flash? Im sure there are tonnes of images on here where flash is used.

Shoot through umbrella at 45 degrees. Might have had a second one trigger on this too. I can't remember.

I used 2 speedlights off camera. One camera left, and you can see the second one at the lower right corner of the telephone booth. It was used to light the inside of the telephone booth.
Both speedlights were triggered using Nikon's built-in CLS system.

They are brand specific. Meaning Nikon will let you use Nikon's flashes and allow the two to communicate in other then M mode. I know few photogs who shoot Canon with a Nikon flash. Others use Metz, Nissin units. IF ttl is what you're looking for, then look for a 3rd party flash that is designed for your camera, otherwise go for a brand-name flash and enjoy it.

It depends on what you want to do and how you want to flash the subject or scene.

If you just want to use the flash as a on-camera flash, it is better to choose one that can talk to the camera (i.e. 580EX for Canon cameras or SB-900 for Nikon cameras). Of course, you can get one that does not talk to the camera but allow you to manually set the power output level and zoom distance. (i.e. Vivitar 285Hv)

thanks guys Dao what do you mean talk to the camera? mean it will set it self in stead of you having to set it?

Newer camera's have whats called TTL. Through the lens. The flash communicates to the camera based on what the lens reads. Does that make sense. There are great books out there that explain all of this specifically for Nikon and Canon. Im not sure about Pentax, Sony or Olympus. I suggest doing some internet searching and reading Strobist for a primer. Dao's link is great.

man i wish i had the money for one of the TTL ones but i just dont think i would be able to swing that :/
thanks guys!
