Anyone near OBX or Lake Mattamuskett, N.C.?

I am the gal who travels in the RV. I have the opportunity to volunteer for the winter at Lake Mattamuskett. I hear this is a HUGE stop on the migratory route for birds but in particular thousands and thousands of Swans.
Anyone familiar with the area, I appreciate any info you can give me. I see to get over to OBX is 67 miles. I was hoping to be closer, but this feels like a great photo op!

Wifey and I met a wonderful couple last year at Rock Creek Lake near Mammoth. They also were volunteers. .One day, I would love to live at least part of the year like that.
