Anyone priced new furniture lately? Sofas in particular

Speaking of the dining room, I put an antique table in storage from my great aunt that will sit 10 with the leafs in place, but no chairs. My son had a round table and 4 chairs that I bought ~20 years ago, but was not using anymore. I spoke with him over Thanksgiving and he said have at them, especially since they were mine to begin with. I don't want the table, but the chairs will come in handy. I'll probably have to put a slightly darker stain on them to match the table.

I feel the room and your sofa are going in different directions. I recently wandered around to buy dining table and chairs, but so expensive everywhere, I really don’t have any clue from where to track down one.

For chairs and tables, you guys should look into auctions. I didn't always pick-up the best deals like my $1 solid oak desk but it was always way cheaper than furniture stores and I tend to find older chairs better designed and more comfortable.

If you guys think retail is expensive, go to a custom shop for a dose of sticker price shock.

I pay the bills by making furniture. An upcoming project is an 8 place queen ann style dining table and chairs with buffet, hutch and serving table, all in maple with bird's eye maple details. Quoted price is well over $25,000 and customer is willing to wait over a year for before I can get to it. A set of kitchen cabinets with furniture grade oak ply cases and solid oak frame and panel doors is $50,000, not including installation or a counter top. A quarter-sawn oak 8 panel interior door is $2500.

You already grabbed it eh? I always, always go to the discount warehouses and scratch/dent/tear warehouses for any furniture or apliances. Most of the time the scratch, dent or tear is somewhere not noticeable Or easily sewn up.
