ANZAC Day

Well, it looks like I'm a year behind on everything at the moment.
Here are a couple of shots from last year's ANZAC day here in Brisbane.

It's a public holiday on the 25th April for remembering those who died at war, especially in Gallipoli. There a services in every Australian city and parades in the big ones where all the old diggers get out and walk, or are driven down the main streets.

I remember...last year in Auckland, New Zealand, when 10,000 turned up on ANZAC Day for what is called the "Dawn Parade". The old soldiers and all head to the memorial for a very quiet ceremony at 6 o´clock in the morning, as the sun rises...but this time in unbelievable rain... When they played "The Last Post" one of the oldest collapsed and died of a heart attack in front of the memorial (someone said there´s a death like this almost every year).

Very serious stuff...
