My aperture3 program seems to be crashing lately. It never finishes importing (well, it finishes, it just doesn't wrap up and SAY it's finished) so I have to force quit and restart, all the pictures have been there. And then yesterday (it didn't freeze on upload this time) some of my preview files are corrupted (is that the right word?) I have half a preview, and the rest is hot pink and black lines...

Does anyone know what could possibly be the issue here? I'm pretty technologically challenged, so sorry if this is a dumb question.

 I went to backup my recent pictures since I knew it crashed mid backup, and is now rebuilding my library....I hope it didn't screw up my original backup!......

Could be your source as well. i.e.: corrupted SD card, flash drive, or whatever. Reformat your SD card after each upload.

Also, you should be giving your computer some "down time" about once a week, restart it.

I'll try both of these. It is a new SD card...

It rebuilt my library and when I went to back up it did the same thing and is rebuilding again...... Maybe I'll export my good photos as JPEGS just so I have something. Exploring seems to be working okay.....

*Sigh* Here are the warning I keep getting. It will not let me update my vault. I deleted all the photos taken from my new (possibly unformatted) memory card. And I am still getting this warning. " An inconsistency in your database has been detected. The application will now quit, relaunch, and restore your database to a consistent state. This may take some time."

Then I get "Would you like to rebuild the library "aperture Library.aplibrary"? The library "aperture Library.aplibrary" is missing required database files and must be rebuilt before it is opened?\

I need to update my computer, which I was going to do AFTER I backed up my photos from the last 6 months. Could this have something to do with it???

Thanks for the idea LightGuru, Still a no go.....

Try creating a new library. If it does the same thing it's not your aperture library it's the program. If it ends up being the program, I would first start by delegating the preference files and if that does not work then delegating the app and reinstalling it.

Before going through all of this have you used the disk utility to check the disk structure and if necessary repair the disk lately? Have you used the disk utility to check and if necessary repair the permissions? Some simple basic MAC maintenance may be in order.

That's not the same at what I just did for the aperture library?? It was called "repair permissions" after I ctrl:option:opened aperture.

No you did a aperture library permissions repair what gryphonslair is siege sting is a system wide thing that would require using disk utility.

I doubt it is a system wide thing, if it was there would be other weird issues happening all over and not just with aperture.

Besides creating a new library is easy.
