Aquaman Themed Shoot

I pushed the shooting day forward a couple since it was 19 this morning and we had snow last night. So instead of today we shot on monday morning. It was a bit more crowded as it was a holiday but we had the place to ourselves early in the morning.

I can see the theme you were going for, and the background might work, but I'm not sure the lighting is correct for the look. IMO the background is over powering the young lady. Maybe a more cinematic approach with moody, dramatic lighting, with some deep blue greens in the shadows, and peekaboo lighting to highlight and direct the viewer's eye.

FYI: I love the pose in the last image! I might have to file that one away for a future shot.

Interesting i dont know how that would work. The park is only open daylight hours.

You could do it either in camera or post. Shooting early morning or late afternoon with a couple of off camera speedlights. Underexpose the ambient, then bring the exposure back on the subject with the speedlights. Switch your camera white balance setting to Tungsten, and add a CTO gel to the flash. Assuming this is a public location, but if they would grant you permission to add a little smoke, it would really add to the scene, especially with a third light behind the smoke.

Or with a raw file, and good exposure, you could do it post. As in the below edit. However, getting smoke/fog to look right post has always been a PITA for me. Anyhow an example maybe more in line with the fantasy theme?

Bring in enough light to create your own day/night.

The other thing that's not working so well for me is the water. I think your shutter speed should have either been high enough to freeze it completely, or low enough to get a nice, dreamy quality to it. As-is, it just doesn't feel right. Some snooted/gridded and gelled lights on the water to add some more spice in addition to what Smoke suggests. I could easily see this being an eight-ten light set when you were ready to shoot.

I like the props, the Wardrobe, and the model and her beautiful red hair, but I am not really feeling it, the "it" being the Aquaman theme.

I think something more is needed, and it is difficult to articulate what that might be, but some element of fantasy achieved either through light or processing is needed to elevate this set. I think that some type of overlay or processing trick would help here As far as the speed of the shutter, I think it's okay, but it might look better if you had combined Flash and a long ambient speed, and by long speed I mean 1/4 to 1 second approximately.

I do like how you have shown the water with just a very slight blurry look to it, but I would be interested to see what the waterfalls might look like with say a one second shutter time.

I guess one could say that these look more like straight daylight shots , and while they are technically spot on, I think that a more "fantasy" look would be perhaps better.
