My order (with BestBuy) was cancelled after 5 days of "pending". I had called 3 times and inquired why it was in pending status and was told there were no issues and all would be shipped by the promised day but this morning I got a cancellation notice!

I have called around to all the larger shops from San Fransisco to San jose and even called New York but nobody has it or a D3s (alternative). I'm on 3 waiting lists...anyone know of a glory hole full of D700s?

I actually called them this morning without sucess :(

With the shortage of any full-frame camera here lately I really doubt they'll release a new model any time in the immediate future. They're selling faster than Japan can produce them at the moment, to release a new model, even if designed, would be silly, wouldn't it?

No, not really. You have to not only design a new model but build the production capacity. It's one thing to hold off on the plans but spending money on the facilities and then not using them is suicidal from an economic point of view. And if you don't keep new models in the pipeline you run the risk of your competitor getting the jump on you and taking a chunk out of your market share (which costs far more than just holding off on production).

Remember when Canon had the corner on the sports market? They let Nikon come along with their new sensor in the D3 without an answer (and when they did it wouldn't focus) and look how Nikon's market share has jumped. The advertising alone from people seeing the pros switching to Nikon is worth Millions.

So, is it worth while to let Canon catch up to make a few million dollars extra on an old design?

I do and you can have it for $3000. Supply and Demand... :D

$3000....is what I just paid shipped from 42nd Street Photo. Really no more than I was paying locally with tax. Never dealt with 42nd street but the sales guy was cool, found me a model from their retail store (hence no discounted price, the online store was out) and pulled it for me. Hooray!

Wow, even Amazon.com has only used and refurbished ones!

I won't mind selling you mine for $2800, bought it just 2 months ago.

But I have to wait for D800 to come out first

lol, too late!

They would normally have it for a few hundred less but were out of stock. Man, I called Abe's I called some place in LA, Chicago, San Fransisco, I spent more time working on finding one than work :eyes:

also picked up one of these Digital Speed 16GB 500X Professional High Speed 100MB/s Error Free (CF) cards for $169.99 which seems to be a good price for a fast card and although I never buy into this crap I ended up buying a "Authorized 3 Year Total Protection Extended WorldWide Warranty Accidental Damage Valued Under $3000.00 For Digital Camera" for another $149.99 incase I bump my head and fall down some stairs, at least then my wife can sell the camera :D

got brand new ones at my local store (still in box, none of that display crap) for $2700. sounds like its too late though, sorry.

Right, add the sales tax to that local purchase...here it's a whopping 9.25% ... so $249.75 tax

You might want to wait a bit in case the next model is about to come out.

Nikon D800 rumors | Nikon Rumors
It will be awhile after the launch before any D800's hit the stores. Don't wait on the D800.

The information on Nikon rumors is just that. Rumors.

I had to laugh...In one sentence they say the rear LCD will be 3.3 inches and then refer us to some web page spouting D300, D700, D800 original LCD's. Uh! The D300, D700 LCD is only 3 inches.
