I was shooting in Ashland, OR this week at Lithia Park. The sun was directly overhead and created some challenging lighting situations. I used HDR to keep down the hot spots on the water, and shot at a very small aperture to allow for longer exposures to get the silky water look. No filters were used. Thoughts?

#1: I really like those roots, and that bright sunlit tree in the far back. Perhaps those elements compete for my attention a bit too much? Not sure.

#2: Not much is drawing my interest. Sky seems a bit overexposed.

The water in both is beautiful. And the HDR is very subtle; I wouldn't have guessed without a closer inspection. That's nice.

These are very nice! Wall-hangers, for sure.

On second viewing, the play of sunlight and shadows on the water in the foreground of #2 is really pleasing. This is what I'd put on my wall :) (sorry about the low res crop)

I'm sorry, but I find that crop utterly uninteresting. Everything of interest is taken away. The context is lost. It's cramped, and I feel a little claustrophobic by looking at it. Original much better. Though I must admit I don't find the originals extremely interesting. #2 more than #1, though. The bridge adds something. If the water was fully blurred, maybe it would make a greater impact.

OVERCOOKED in my opinionNah just kidding dudeReally good job especially with no filters
