I was having a bad bad and movement was like walking on razor blades.
So I had to stay in bed and hope or wait for the pain to drop.
When there was a loud thud on the wall outside.
I then heard birds real close making a lot of noise and it forced me to move.
I got outside and see this scene and even with me there they didn't care.
So inside and grab my camera and hope I am in time to get it.

What I was watching was Butcher Birds attacking a just out of the nest Cuckoo baby.
The thud was it hitting the wall and then fell into the little wheelbarrow I made.
The attack continue even with me close by. I could have stopped it but I have watch nature shows so I never stopped what was going to happen

In one shot the baby looks at me as to say help me.
But I was left amazed that the 2 larger Butcher Birds gave up and flew away.
About 30 seconds later so did the baby, so no damage was done to it.
And it shows how strong willed a baby is when in a position that might be its last time alive.

Defending their nest?

Sorry to hear of your pain, the pics are a nice catch.

Thank to all who have made comments on this lot.
I just think I was fortunate to be there at the right time.

Love the look on the cuckoo in the last photo! Has a lot of character to it! First shot is also very good, you can see the challenge in the shrike, low and hunched and ready to attack, and the defiance building in the confused/dazed cuckoo in the barrow.

Pretty crazy, neat that you didn't disturb the altercation. That would have been hard for me to refrain. Nice document. Hope your feeling pain free soon.

Thanks for all the well wishes by you all, I just have to say that this is a part of my life now and has been for a real long time already. So I just fight through and fall in a heap at night times a lot.
On to the actual shots, it was hard to keep out of it as its our as they say humanity steps in.
So it was hard to fight that and just be and observer.
I am pleased I did do what I done as it is nature in the long run.
