i have a nikon d200 how do you turn auto focus off?

i would suggest reading the manual

i dont own a d200 but if its like the other cameras its this button: switch it to M

Do you want to but the lens on manual focus? If so switch it to M if not do what the above post says.

if its at all like the d50, the lens and the body (not the mode, but the focus) both have to be set to M
