You can learn via trial and error or you can learn via first principles. The former gives you only the how, the latter gives you the why and makes you a much more informed person.

Can you take the same awesome photos? Of course. But then I'm sure there's plenty of people on the road who think the right peddle means go, and the left one means stop, while there's others who do their own oil changes. Live in ignorance if you want, but don't try and put down someone seeking technical knowledge as unimportant.

People in general just don't have an inquisitive enough mind these days. I mean for gods sake the OP could have simply been a physics student asking a question. He never even stated he owned a camera.

I never put anyone down for trying to improve their minds through knowledge. I just don't believe that always having to understand all the physics helps make a person a better photographer, or understanding the formula behind the oil I put in my car will make the car run better. I wasn't trying to bash anyone, I just said that I personally don't need to know the "whys" Other people enjoy learning the why and how. I just learn what I need to know to do my job. It's the same using photoshop, I learned what I needed to know to do my job, am I any good using photoshop, I'm pretty good at it, and yet I may only know 25% of the program. The point is that I don't need to over complicate what I do by adding in more than I really need to know. If someone else feels the need to understand everything, good for them. I just take pictures.
