B&W Noob

Alright guys, I'm a super noob and while I feel I'm getting better in most aspects, I still feel like I'm struggling with B&W. I shot this to be an HDR but in color it didn't really work. I converted it to B&W and it seems to me like it works. I really like the linear aspect, there are lines everywhere. Anyway, C&C welcome as I'm trying to get better at all aspects... Thanks in advance...

Is this a convert of the HDR, or a Desaturation during tonemapping?

I shot 3 exposures on location, then converted them to HDR using Photomatix. I brought the photo over to GIMP, adjusted the levels, and then converted it to B&W. I didn't keep it in color cause it didn't work for me.

Nice perspective here. But is that litter on the grass? Whatever it is it's a bit distracting for me.

Yeah that's litter, I didn't bother to take it out yet because I just wanted to see if the B&W conversion worked. Next time, I'm going to move it before shooting... LOL...
