b&w with camera or photoshop?

Probably the strongest quality that grabs the viewer with a black and white photo is its emotional power. Even if the photo is just of an old barn or an antique car, there is an emotional appeal that is difficult to analyze in words but universal as we look at it.

That is why black and white photos almost instantly take on an artistic look. Experimenting with black and white will do a lot to improve your work.
 
As everyone said... always in PP do B&W...

but sarah, I have to say, I like your 1st picture better. The second one looks flared out around the face and a bit scary. You can't see any detail on the face at all. A little over processed.

probably person preference. The face is not blow though, take it into photoshop and check the numbers. Its all under 244. That picture is also one that just got me a $1500 sale with the mom. The a moody, dramatic B&W....thats how it is supposed to be. The first one is crap...all I did was change it to boring flat greyscale that has no contrast at all.
