Baby Steps

Thanks Mike. I've never really played around w/ layer masks that much. I figured out what you were doing though. I'm still playing around with it, but what I have now is a much better start than what I posted. Think I'll print each and see which I like then.
The reason that I wanted this type of effect was that psychologically, I think it portrays that my daughter is developing her own autonomy and in doing so, her dependence on mom and I will fade more and more which is sad, but a part of life. I think the unedited image shows a more cooperative relationship and has a different feel, if all that makes sense.

I appreciate the help on this. Learned a new skill myself.
 
Layer masks are absolutely wonderful. They allow you to apply effects to what ever part of the image you want...but also, they allow you to change that area simply by painting the mask on or off.
