Backlinks to increase website rank in Google search results?

I just read a post from a friend on FB talking about how they purchased "Quality Backlinks" from a company to increase their rank in Google when someone types in a keyword that is relevant to his photography business. He said that it worked "awesome."

This is the first I have heard about "backlinks" and I am pretty interested. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Well you can get backlinks to your website from being members of a forum, commenting on other blogs, publishing articles, etc. But Quality backlinks are difficult because they usually need to be withing your niche and also be from a source/page with high google rankings ~PR5. It's tough to get, probably have to pay someone if you don't organically perform it on a regular basis.
