I have both in Manfrotto flavor. I got the pistol grip just before I had dominant shoulder surgery. Worked like a charm. I still use it as long as I'm not using one of the Holy Trinity in portrait mode. It does creep with a heavy load. Otherwise, the pistol is much quicker to get in position. Adjust tilt in post.

for quick adjustments, I like the pistol grip.
for portraits I prefer the pan-tilt.
I actually find the pan-tilt better for small adjustments since i can move just one section and keep the rest locked.
