Sometimes I like a shot but I don't know what to do with it at first.
Rediscovered this one tonight and gave it a go.

It is a nice picture, very quiet, with nice transitions of tonality. makes me stop and go back to some memories from the past. (Deep past )

The background is a little distracting, otherwise I like it.

The background isn't distracting: it's out of focus, a different tone and it gives context that we're in a forest.

Thanks for the comments! I like the way the background accentuates the 3 dimensional illusion to the shot. I feel like I can stick my arm into the photo, or that the foreground tree is ready to pop out of the frame.
Of course, that might not translate too well when posted online, but that's what I like about this - and the simplicity.

That being said, I see what Fred is saying and indeed worked at striking a balance using the strength and color of the filters when doing the conversion. I suppose I could have gone a touch darker with the background.
I had actually added a bit of lens falloff vignette for this very reason.
