Thanks all. I see these Owls doing this often. They will flappped in the grass/dirt and then lay out wide open in the sun. I have been told it's to remove mites and other little critters from the feathers.

I wish I seen owls doing this often, fact is I don't see owls other then two barred owls, one from a rescue from injury and one in the wild I captured and other then that nada.
