My assignment for my Photography class was:
"Next class bring in three pictures that you have taken throughout the week that you like."

What do you think? Feel free to be harsh. This is a beginner class, but I want to have something decent to show.

I think you're on the right track. Not earth-shattering shots, but hey, none of us start out taking them. The only job where you start out at the top is grave-digger.

I think you need to work on getting your composition down better, though.

I really like the hand-held candle. But I would prefer portrait mode, and seeing more of the hand & maybe the wrist. As for the candle in the background, it's distracting to me.

Why is #1 in the horizontal/landscape frame format?

Rookie mistake..... easiest way to hold the camera, or mount into a basic tripod.

The first two need some cropping, IMO. Use The Rule of Thirds here. (google it if you don't know it yet)

The third one is nice. Maybe try a B&W version too!

This first is cropped to an 8x10 (5:4 aspect ratio):

This one is just cropped for content using the rule-of-thirds:
