Total beginner, playing around with manual mode on beach with pup chasing birds. Sun blown out but kind of like it! Help me :)

Thank you!! I will look into that. I haven’t even dabbled in editing yet.... Just working on camera settings now, but guess this should be my next step!

Thanks :)

Editing of half the image these days imo. Check out some Lightroom tutorials on YT to get started.

Metering, metering! Meter for the sun to tone it down and use a good flash to help light up the subject. Then correct the rest in PS. You may find PS elements easier to work with than LR as a beginner, I'm not 100%, I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere but research it yourself and see. Either will be very helpful. Of course one could just simply go full auto with a good flash and call it a day but that's too easy.

BTW, #4 and #5 aren't bad as far as light goes.
Word of mention, most people number their pics when there's like say, more than 3 pics. No big deal, it just helps with identifying a pic when talking about it. GL!

Heaven forbid that we should ever make it too easy!

Perhaps some light editing. The first editing that you should learn is culling the really bad ones. Then, straighten and crop might be all you need for now.

Yes, please number when you have more than two in one post.

This is my pick of the bunch:

I tried to bring up the shadows a bit and I cropped off the white structure in the background. A tiny bit of "fill flash" would have made a huge difference in this shot.
