Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Hi, I am new to dslr's, and would like to buy an entry level one. I would like the kit with the kit lens to be under $450. This can be achieved with some of the older models, like the canon xs, nikon, d40/d50/d60. another option is the nikon d3000. They are all on ebay for less than $450. Which of these are the best? Are there ones i overlooked? thanks for all help

could someone please help me?

dunno how much help i am but i has an XS and a buddy of mine has a d3000, both are excellent cameras that can serve for quite some time of enjoyment and quite the level of detail. if u search thru any of my posts u'll see the camera is far better than i am haha

Pick any of the ones you mentioned. they all deliver about the same image quality and have about the same features.

I'm not real impressed with Canon's older entry-level cameras, because they don't have Spot metering mode.

The Nikon D60 and Nikon D3000 are essentially the same camera, but the D3000 has 11 AF points.

I'm a newbie and I bought a D3000 in August. Very happy with it.

I bought the Canon XS a year ago, and for me starting out it has been working well. After having it for a year I wish it could use an IR remote, and I wish it performed better at higher ISO, but I doubt any cheap dslr will have much better performance.

But any of those should be effective starter bodies. I would suggest staying away from anything but Nikon or Canon, you want those new lenses you buy for your entry level camera to go with you when it is time to upgrade to a better body.

Add the Xti to your list... I bought one for my wife and it's not a bad little camera for the price. Paid $225 for it if I recall (no lens).

I'd get the XS. Actually, I really have got it. The Canon's CMOS sensor handles high ISO images better than the D3000. Nikon also lacks some essential controls, like the ISO button.

The Nikon D3000's Fn button can be configured so it can be used with the command dial to adjust ISO.

As your first DSLR, you may not have to limit on those models. Recommend an article that can help you build up basic knowledge about DSLR before you buy.

i have pretty much narrowed it down to the canon xti and nikon d50. which is better? which kit lens is better?

My first SLR was the D200 was way more pricy than what I expected yet I was instantly hooked on the layout of the buttons.
My other choice may have been a Rebel.
hope you enjoy!
