Hi everyone,
Been lurking these boards since I was interested in photography as a hobby. I did some research and settled on a D40 kit that I bought used for a great bargain. I figured this camera would be a good fit for me as my skills developed, and I listened to everyone that said "save your money on quality glass"
I've been snapping a few pictures here and there trying to practice compositions and the more basic techniques. I'm trying to use manual control as much as possible, in conjunction with AP and SP to learn which settings work under certain conditions. I noticed that I actually delete at least 1/2 the pictures I actually take! Maybe I'm a picky shooter!
Here are 3 of the better pictures I took. Not to say they are perfect, but I would really appreciate any areas that need improvement. Thanks!
1: A little grainy because it was shot indoors with a high ISO (800) since I don't have a tripod or anything that could keep the body steady for a longer shutter. I would have to say its still on the darker side in terms of exposure, though I'm not sure what else could have been done to fix that outside of increasing shutter speed.
2: First attempt trying to do a basic macro flower shot. I'm not sure if the focus was spot on here. It looks like it might have picked up the darker leaf instead of the actual flower. The flower might have also been a little obscured by the others in the background and the subject is a little too far left. My goal was to try to get the maximum background blur, but I think the composition needed some work.
3: Another attempt at macro. I think its a lot better compositionally than the last, but perhaps a tad underexposed. Also, it looks to me that its a little soft, even though I did set manual autofocus points to get this shot.
