The other day, I had some time to kill. I went into Best Buy and browsed the camera section. First off some ridiculous prices if you ask me. Also I noticed how the Micro 4/3's are growing left n right. Has anyone played around with any of these? Im not too impressed by quality. The Nikon V1 or J1 shoots 10fps which isnt good quality if you ask me. I like the thought of the interchangeable lens but overall not impressed with quality. Its the in between the DSLR and a PnS. Just airing out some opinions.

How are you not impressed with the quality? Is it the build quality? Images quality? I've seen photos taken with M43 cameras that rival photos taken with a DSLR. There's a video out there of someone shooting professional level work with an iPhone. They're using thousands in lighting gear, but they're still got an amazing finished product. There are also pro photogs out there that have ditched their DSLR kits for an M43 kit. Maybe you've just not seen any photos taken by a mirrorless camera or used one to form a real opinion about the quality of work one can produce.

A 4/3 is not a camera that is in between anything. They are dslr or slt with a 4/3 format. Many people make them now. Olympus, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic all make them. Heard good things about the Panasonic. Nex 7 sound good from what I have been told by friends. You can use lots of older lenses with these bodies and the right adapters. And why is 10fps bad quality? I never get why people think that is a bad thing.

Nikon and Sony are not Micro 4/3 cameras. The Sony has an APS-C sensor and the Nikon is smaller than the M43. M4/3 is the mount, IIRC and the 4/3 is also the sensor format/size.

I went to Best Buy the other day. They had a 5D Mark II with a 50mm 1.8 II on the body. I wanted to punch the sales associate in the face.

Atleast it wasn't the 28-135mm like at my local Best Buy. Heh.

I'd rather have that though dude. I mean, the 50mm is just dwarfed by a FF body, or even a 7D. It just looks silly. The 7D in there had the 28-135, but the body didn't turn on so it was kinda moot.

Dude, they want people to see the super sweet way you can blur the background without instagram. The probably set it up on manual at f1.8 too....

Yeah they're more a bulk buy center that are great for large families with decent income. You spend a lot when you go there but your buying 6 bottles of ketchup at a time.

You could probably get the same price at another retailer simply by showning him the Costco price, and you wouldn't have to purchase a membership.

Overall the build quality was very cheap as well as the images. Im a big natural light guy because I like sports photography. Only hockey and basketball(which I have never shot) would I use lighting. I just didnt like the J1 and Im a Nikon guy.

Costco definitely has better deals. When I worked at Best Buy, we were not allowed to price match them because they are "wholesale, not retail". That being said, Best Buy is a great place to get hands on with the equipment and see what you like.

No it's not. Stuff doesn't work half the time.

I'm a musician among other things, and the salesmen are just the same in a guitar shop lol, they know NOTHING about the product..they just know how to sell things to naive people that know **** and scam them into buying things...its really mindbogglingly totally ridicules...once upon a time a salesman would actually know what there selling...today its all about making the sale by all costs.

Then you've only ever seen terrible images. A camera is only as good as the person holding it.

I'm a musician among other things, and the salesmen are just the same in a guitar shop lol, they know NOTHING about the product..they just know how to sell things to naive people that know **** and scam them into buying things...its really mindbogglingly totally ridicules...once upon a time a salesman would actually know what there selling...today its all about making the sale by all costs.

I agree, I was at best buy a couple of months ago and asked a sales person if he could show me headphones with volume control... He went through all of the headphones looking to see if they had volume control. I could have done that!

This is why I have a future dream of building a Olympus mirrorless system to replace my compact. The dream seems a long way off though right now!

long as you pay attention and buy properly you can save so much money even with smaller families. i bought one of our tv's from there, they were the cheapest i could find for this tv so bought it, a month later costco had it on sale for $100 less i walked in. asked them about it since i had just bought it, and they checked the recipt, popped open the cash register and gave me the $100 diffrence without batting an eye. There gas is also usually 10-20 cents cheaper.
