Hey again,
does this include lenses, or if needed other accessories?
what is it, that you plan to photograph? Travel (landscape), people (portrait, street), wildlife,...
Have you considered mirrorless too? It´s very similar to DSLR, but it lacks a mirror and is therefore smaller. There are some advantages and disadvantages to going mirrorless.

Agree with the above statement. The type of photos you like or plan to take may affect the gear choice. Since you are new to photography so you may not know. It is very similar to car buying. Best car under X amount of dollars could result in many choices. I may suggest the Prius and turn out you need one that can carry 7 passengers or you want one that can go from 0-60mph (or 0 to 100km/h) in 5 sec.

So tell us more about the type photos you are interested in. You may not have the answer now since you are new, if that is the case, then it means general photography. So I will recommend first find a camera(s) with a standard zoom lens and a external flash that meet your budget. That can be a mirrorless or DSLR.

Once you find them, compare and see which one is best for you. (The one that is best for me may not be best for you though).

Here are some criteria I have in mind now that may help you making the choice.
- Overall starting cost
- Lenses that I am interested to buy in the future
- Any other gears that you also like to get
- What gears are your photography buddies use?
- Overall photography gears weight?
- Are you already familiar with one particular system?

I assume you mean Australian Dollars, which would mean about $1,500 US Dollars. This would limit your choices of new cameras to probably crop sensors (which I favor anyway, but that is just me). I would get a Nikon D7200 with an 18-140 lens. You should have enough left over to get some accessories (tripod, SD cards, camera bag, etc.)

If you are new, I would suggest you take it very, very slowly. Maybe watch some YouTube tutorials on each of the recommended products. Understand the differences. Definitely understand the differences in the lenses you may be paying for in the kit. Manufacturers are bundling different lenses in different kits depending upon where it is being sold. If you care about warranties, make sure you are purchasing a camera from an authorized dealer. Buying used and getting better lenses is always an option if you know who you are buying from. Spend a good amount researching the camera. The more I am learning, the less I like the modern cameras, so I highly recommend that you do your own research before buying and ask lots of questions.

Well, sorry, but there is no objective answer to this question because there are far, far too many variables.

The DSLR I'd get for $1500 would be a used Nikon D800, which is around $1000 now. Great deal at that price. No lenses yet though.

The top camera to get for $1500 right now would be the Fujifilm X-T3. Thats not a DSLR though and for $1500 you wont have any lenses yet. Or flash. Or tripod. Or carrying bags. Filters. Memory cards. Batteries. Etc.

If I personally had $1500 to spend and get a complete set of gear for photography, my personal choice would be Nikon D700 (used ca $500 and falling), Nikkor AF 35mm f2 (used ca $200), Tokina 100mm f2.8 macro (used ca $250), Phottix Nikon flash & controller unit (IIRC ~$400), Manfrotto BeFree Aluminium (ca $150). Thats all optimized for my own personal needs though. Your needs may vary greatly.

Recommend you find good photography shop and have a knowledgeable sales person take you through the various cameras (and lenses) based on what you plan on shooting. You are saying you want a dslr, but why? A point and shoot camera or a bridge camera may be a better choice for how you plan on using it.
