Best tripod?

[bevoholic]

I had a cheap tripod that I got way back with my very first camera and it finally broke. It was a 40 dollar one from Sony. Anyway, looking to get a new one and wanted some recommendations. Have about a 200 dollar budget.

Gotta give us some more info...

What is the max weight of your camera + heaviest lens / accessories?

What are you looking for in a tripod? Light weight? Stability? Price?
What will you use it for? Macro? Portraits? Landscapes?

I do a lot of macro and I use a Gitzo Explorer and absolutely love it.

Exactly....Best for what?

What kind of camera/lens? What kind of photography?

For all purpose use, I have a Giottos MT9251 legs with a MH1000 ball head. I love it.

$225 from B and H. Giottos MT9251 with MH1000 Ball Head/MH652 MT9251+MH1000-652 B&H

For bang for the buck, you might try this one. 055XB3025 Manfrotto 055XB Black Tripod Kit with 3025 3D Junior Head & Tripod Case
At least you can always up-grade the head and it can easily handle your gear.

Guy has a D5000 with kit lens with a $200 budget and you post an article that basically says he's wasting his money if he doesnt go ahead and buy a $1000 tripod :lmao:

BTW, that article leaves off a lot of the fiscal differences that are made up by selling all of the previous iterations purchased.

You sound like you're "pimping" this guys article...Do you get something for it? I have a $200 budget. How the hell could I afford a $1000 tripod?

Wanna buy it for me?

ALTA PRO 263AB 100 Vanguard 263AB-100 3-Section Alluminum Alloy Alta Pro 263-AT Tripod Legs with SBH-100 QR Ballhead, Maximum Height 68", Supports 15.4 lbs

Meets your budget. Good height, good weight limit. Independent legs that can adjust wide for low to the ground or uneven terrain, articulating center column. ball head with quick release,I use this pod but with the sb 50 ball head so I am sure with the sb100 its even better.

BTW OP, I forgot to address your question. Check out SLIK tripods. Most of them are pretty high quality and great bang for the buck tripods. I've got the 580DX and it is a solid tripod with a large range of operating heights.

Here is what I use Manfrotto 190XPROB Pro Aluminum Tripod Kit B&H Photo Video

Holds good weight, not too heavy. Although I do have a different head than the one that comes with the kit (similar model, just older).

The center column can go fully horizontal, which can be good for macro and table top work. Its under $200 for the kit

[rambler]

if you want to save a little weight, look for a carbon fiber tripod in your price range.

eg. Slik Pro 624 CF Carbon Fiber Tripod

I noticed that bigtwinky's tripod can "go horizontal" as low as 3.3".
